Fire adds engagement to quiet contemplation. I designed this chiminea to accentuate our personal space, which we delight in sharing with each other and close friends. After several disappointing low-fire ceramic chimineas, it was important to design and build this replacement to last. Made of 3/16” thick A606 weathering steel, this is expected to be the last chiminea I ever own.

The work of renowned Pennsylvania woodworker and sculptor Wharton Escherick inspired the design of this chiminea. I set myself the task of creating movement and drama from sheet steel in a way that captures swirling flames, similar to Escherick’s ability to capture gestural movement in wood.
